American Idiot's Winning Set Designer Christine Jones Wants to Continue Her Love Affair with Michael Mayer

"Love happened here!" American Idiot set designer Christine Jones exclaimed as she took the stage to accept her award, and she's got plenty of love for her show's director Michael Mayer, with whom she has worked on both Idiot and Spring Awakening. "Michael is a genius, and when you look at his work and the range he can do, it's astonishing," she said in the Tony press room. "I sort of feel like Michael and I have been having this crazy love affair and I'm not ready to move on, so I hope Michael has [another project] in the works." Jones added she can't wait to get back to the St. James Theater, where fans and audience members are allowed to sign the walls after seeing American Idiot. "I've put pictures of my kids and my kids' drawings there," she said. "I never get tired of seeing what people put on the walls—maybe we'll spend the night there!"
